Section 01

Introductory Guide

Module 01 What Is UGC, Really? 3 min read

UGC (User-Generated Content) is content made by a real person — not a polished ad — that shows a product being used in everyday life. Brands love it because it feels honest, relatable, and trustworthy. No studio lights, no script that sounds like a commercial. Just you, being you, talking about something you'd actually use.

Authentic

Looks like it was filmed on a phone, not on a studio set.

Relatable

Feels like a recommendation from a friend, not a sales pitch.

Trusted

People believe real people — always more than they believe ads.

Section 02

How To Record Yourself

A quick 4-lesson video course covering everything you need to film scroll-stopping UGC — no fancy equipment required.

4 Lessons Beginner Friendly Just Your Phone
01 Lesson 01

Lighting

Natural light is your best friend. Film facing a window, never with it behind you. Skip harsh overhead lights — soft, even light makes any skin tone and product look better.

02 Lesson 02

Sound

Clear audio matters more than a fancy camera. Record somewhere quiet, get close to your phone's mic, and always do a test clip before the real take.

03 Lesson 03

Framing

Shoot vertical (9:16), keep the product or your face in the center, and leave a little breathing room at the top for captions and text.

04 Lesson 04

Takes

Always film more than you think you need — different angles, a close-up, a wide shot. You can cut it down later, but you can't add footage you never filmed.

Charge your phone & clear storage space
Clean your camera lens
Check your lighting — face a window
Do a 5-second sound test
Know your first line before you start
Film more footage than you think you need
Section 03

Parts Of A Winning Video

Six short lessons on what makes people stop, watch, and actually remember your content.

05 Lesson 05

Hook in the first 3 seconds.

Lead with the result, a bold statement, or a question. If you don't earn the first 3 seconds, nothing else matters.

06 Lesson 06

Show your real reaction.

Genuine excitement, surprise, or relief sells more than a perfect script ever will.

07 Lesson 07

Add text overlays.

Most people watch with the sound off — say the key point on screen, not just out loud.

08 Lesson 08

Solve a problem.

"Here's what I wish I knew before" performs better than a plain review.

09 Lesson 09

Ride the trend.

Use a trending sound or format, but make the message your own.

10 Lesson 10

End with a clear next step.

Tell people what to do: save it, share it, go get it.

Every scroll-stopping UGC video follows the same four-part structure. Use this as your base script — swap the product, keep the formula.

01 Part 01

The Hook

The first 3 seconds decide if someone keeps watching. Open with a bold claim, a question, or the end result — never with "hi guys" or a slow intro.

Example: "I wish someone told me this before I wasted €50 on the wrong foundation."

02 Part 02

The Body (Your Script Base)

This is your reusable script skeleton: show the product in your hands, explain what it is in one line, then demonstrate it in action — texture, application, real reaction. Reuse this structure for every video, just swap the product.

Example: "Okay so this is the [product] everyone's been talking about — let's see if it actually works."

03 Part 03

Problem Resolution

Name the problem the product solves, then show the "aha" moment — the before/after, the relief, the result. This is where you build trust.

Example: "My skin used to feel tight and dry by noon — now it stays hydrated all day."

04 Part 04

The CTA

Tell people exactly what to do next. One clear action — not three. Save it, use the code, tap the link.

Example: "Use code MADDIE10 at checkout — link's in my bio."

Reaching out to brands doesn't need to feel awkward. Use these as your base copy — just personalize the bracketed parts and keep the hook.

Email Pitch

"Hi [Brand]! I'm a UGC creator who loves [Product/Niche] — I'd love to create a few scroll-stopping videos for your page. Here's my portfolio: [link]. Would you be open to a quick chat?"

Instagram DM

"Obsessed with [Brand] 😍 I make UGC content for brands like yours — would you be open to a collab? I'd love to send over some ideas!"

Comment / Reply

"This is exactly the kind of content I create for brands! Sending you a DM — would love to work together 🤍"

Personalize every message — mention something specific about the brand. Generic copy-paste pitches get ignored.
When They Only Offer Free Product

Sometimes a brand reaches out wanting a trade — free product only — when what you really want is a paid collab. Here are three ways to respond, depending on your style.

Direct & Confident

"Thank you so much for thinking of me! I only take on paid collaborations right now — my rate for a UGC video starts at [price]. Happy to send over more details!"

Warm & Flexible

"I love [Brand] so much! I don't usually work in product-only exchanges, but I'd love to put together a small paid package for you — want me to send some options?"

Value-Focused

"Thanks for reaching out! Content creation is my full-time work, so I only take on paid collaborations. I'd love to create something for [Brand] — my rates start at [price], and I can tailor a package to fit your budget."

It's okay to say no to product-only offers — your work has value. Most brands will come back with a paid offer once they see you know your worth.
Section 04

Your Ideal Portfolio

Before you start pitching brands, make sure your portfolio covers these formats.

0/6 formats ready
Check off each format as you film it — once everything's checked, your portfolio is ready to send to brands.
Section 05
